Patriots WR Moss hired new agent to get more benefits from fame

The New England Patriots veteran wide receiver Randy Moss is now represented by a new agent Joel Segal, who is also representing New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush, Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. Moss’ former agent Tim DiPiero, was fired after failing to get enough off-field opportunities for his client.

"To all the agents out there, I'm a free man!" Moss in an Archie Manning jersey told the Boston Herald when he ended his business relationship with DiPiero. "I am looking for a new agent. I got this football thing under control, but going into my 13th year in the league, I’m still marketable. I’m looking for an agent that’s going to get me out there with my marketing ability. I can shoot commercials. That’s what I’m looking for right now, that off-the-field money.”

Although Moss insisted that he hired a new agent to get more commercial offers, there are speculations that he was preparing for a negotiation with the team for a new contract. Having played with the Patriots for three seasons, Moss has been reported to want a contract extension that may pay him a higher salary for next season.

Patriots WR Moss could leave New England as contract expires

2010 is the last year of the three-year contract between New England Patriots and wide receiver Randy Moss and Moss expects that the Patriots are likely to let him leave as the contract expires because a 33-year-old wide receiver could be expendable in the league.

"I don’t think they going to extend my contract here," Moss told reporters, per the Boston Globe, today while attending a charity softball game in Florida. "I understand the beast, the nature of it. I think that just with what I think and what I know I don’t think they’re going to re-sign me back. So, after this season if there is not a lockout I’ll be looking for a new team. I got a lot of respect for the Patriots and what they did for me and my family. So, the only thing I can do is just play this year out and see what my future holds after that."

With the contract, the Patriots should pay totally $27 million to Moss and the base salary in 2010 is $6.4 million. Catching 83 passes for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns last year, Moss does not expect the Patriots to pay much for retaining a receiver at his age. However, he believes quarterback Tom Brady will continue wearing the Patriots jerseys with a long-term contract.

Former agent of Randy Moss pleaded guilty in loan case

The New England Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss was wise to drop his agent Dante DiTrapano in 2006. On Thursday, DiTrapano pleaded guilty to a federal charge of providing a false statement to a bank.

According to federal prosecutor, DiTrapano forged someone else’s signature on the loan papers after he falsely told United Bank that he and the other individual would be jointly liable for a $500,000 loan. Then he used $40,000 of the $500,000 loan for purposes that was not stated on the papers.

DiTrapano will be sentenced on Jan. 14 in U.S. District Court in Beckley. The sentence will be 30 years of imprisonment and a $1 million of fine.
